SMT's

I keep seeing spots here and there referring to surface mount technology, but no definative answers. I know Steve has mentioned the monolythics look promising, but how about the very small flat pieces? Are the caps, resistors, transistors, fuses worth harvesting and processing anything out of them? I'd hate to process the mother boards and have good materials wasted and thrown away.

Thanks for any info and hopefully this can serve as reference for others.
