Breaking open some old flatpacks I've found some silver(colored) metal strips with shiny, purple metal on the surface. Any thoughts on this? I'm unable to test at the moment.

It's nothing special, some chips have an internal heat spreader. I've even seen them in DIP packages. They're often anodized purple, blue, or red. I think they're just steel judging by their resistance to bending, but I never actually tested any.
