Did anyone ever refine Reinshaw Gold plated tape for Optical encoder scale range?

I got offered few meters of it, but asking price is around U$25 per meter (cca. 15 grams/m).
Is it worth that much? What is base metal?
 
Best thing you can do is buy a meter of it and try it out. Then you'll know the yields.
 
I had some of it, I just mixed it in with pins and melted it in to anodes...nothing especially exciting.
