Hello—

This message is practically identical to many others on the forum, but circumstances and the markets change by the moment, so here goes:

Can anyone on the forum recommend a particular Toll Refiner (some listed below, w/ comments) who can handle, say, ten tons of sorted PC board, with occasional smaller consignments of higher value sorted material, like HDD board and memory?

I have to report to a charity in a few weeks, that’s looking to get more, if they can, than what boardsort.com pays. Given the volume of material already in their warehouses, they’ve got to start moving it out by the truckload PDQ.

Recently an acquaintance of mine lost money on a several-ton consignment because the refiner didn’t apprise him up front about ‘hidden’ processing fees, for handling lead and other hazmat materials (or so I’m told—I wasn’t a party to the deal). I am wondering about what ‘hidden’ charges there typically are to bulk Toll refining.

Thanks in advance for any insights. I’d be grateful both for public and/or private messages.

PS: Selected refiners
• Boliden AS http://www.boliden.com/ -- I’ve been in contact with an outfit in Chicago that ships their materially to Boliden, exclusively. Long wait between shipping out in cargo containers and settling accounts.
• Sipi Metals – http://www.sipimetals.com/ -- they’ve been around a long time, but, given my conversation with the place in Chicago, I’m reluctant to approach them. Then there’s NYMEX slapping them on the hands for a shady deal: http://www.cmegroup.com/tools-information/lookups/advisories/disciplinary/NYMEX-14-0038-BC-2-SIPI-METALS-CORPORATION.html#pageNumber=1
• Specialty Metals -- http://www.specialtymetals.com/contact-us/ -- a bit of a long-haul truck drive from here, but worth it?
• MK Recovery Group -- http://www.mkrecoverygroup.com/services/precious-metal.php -- ditto

I've seen Ohio Precious Metals mentioned before, but I don't have any personal experience with them. South Central Ohio, a couple hours east of Cincinnati, so another long trek for you, but they might be worth a call unless someone else posts some negative feedback on them.

I've heard there is another refinery near Cincinnati (Fairfield?), but I don't have any information on them.

In answer to the other part of your question, I've heard tell of incoming weight fee, sampling fee, assay fee, hazardous metals surcharge (lead, cadmium, mercury, etc.), crucible loss, the "we happened to finish your lot on the day when metals were at their lowest", and, of course, the "we have your metals, and you don't" fee.
