All,

Was getting ahead of myself without checking with Boardsort about the purchase of the below Lithium batteries. I was taking them apart and retrieving the connectors, discarding the plastic housing. I spoke with Chis and was told I needed to keep them intact and tape the connectors. Now a question what should I do with a bucket of Lithium cells? Any ideas? They have all been discharged, and I have read that shorting these mostly 18650 batteries will make them useless. I have saved a number of them and bought a led flashlight that takes dual 18650's with charger, but that is another story.

I got several kg from notebooks as well, still intakt not dismanteled. I dont care about the contact. Too much work in my opinion for very little return. But be careful with them , they tend to get hot and start to burn over time, since they react with the nitrogen gas right out of the air. that is why there is always a warning not to open them...
So better store them in a save place and avoid shortcutting like in your bucket.
Once they start burning there is almost no way to stop them.

Marcel,

Thanks for the very informative information. I have placed them side by side in a box with the polatrity in the same dirrection. Next I am going to take some duct tape and tape them together in packs of ten. Still don't know what to do with them. :(

I believe it is water you want to keep them away from. Here is a link to a video of a Lithium & water reaction:

What were the batteries out of?
I would recommend taping the ends so the contacts don't touch. Also label the container you place them in so they don't get misplaced!

There was a place in Wisconsin taking them but don't think I have their contact info handy.

Are all these batteries people are collecting at the end of their life? Those 18650s have a very good market out there for people that use them for vaping. Provided they are still in good condition you could easily sell them for half their retail value instead of giving them away. $5 dollars A PIECE.

$5 each is a bit steep, i bought a flashlight a couple years ago that uses these and bought 4 extra batteries that came with a charger from ebay for around $15. Today they are less than half that price: http://www.ebay.com/itm/10PCS-Deep-Blue-UltraFire-18650-Rechargeable-Battery-5000mah-3-7v-Li-ion-Battery-/151351437993?pt=US_Rechargeable_Batteries&hash=item233d3faaa9

It is likely more trouble trying to sell them used than they are worth.

Here it's not feasible sell them, I would need more then 10Kg just to pay for the expenses so I'm giving them out for free to friends of mine who vapors, they know what I'm doing and they told me they will give me their eScrap. All other batteries, with taped ends, will be properly disposed in apposite containers situated in a town next to mine unless I find a better deal.

From what I've seen those aren't good batteries. Dangerous even. It doesn't state the max continuous discharge or pulse discharge anywhere. I am personally running a high wattage device and these simply wouldn't cut it. Check this out and the comments

You want to get good quality batteries like these.

Very cool of you to give them away. And when you get scrap in trade its a bonus. A win win situation.

Yeap, it is a win-win situation, and they all look for Sony and Samsung as your post above. Trading is also a good excuse to keep in touch and meet up with friends that otherwise would be hard to.
