I'd like to pump my acid wastes through a cartridge filter on it's way to the treatment stage.

Is there any one using one that they are particularly fond of?

Frankly, I'm considering just a cheap dupont water filter cartridge holder, then 5 micron polypropylene filters. The amount of waste going through them is going to be minimal, say 10 gallons, and I'll then flush with water.

My concern is that the cheap cartridge holders are made of an "unknown plastic", so I can't check compatibility. I'm more than willing to pay extra for a polypropylene holder with a teflon o ring, but am a little lost as to how to source them.

So why do you want to filter your waste acids versus syphoning? Are you trying to save time after cementing? In my small scale operation I have plenty of time to wait for things to settle, but I could see how some might like to speed things up a little bit.

I'm lazy and I don't like to wait. Plus, if you are pumping off, it's really easy to accidentally suck up sediment.

I'm talking about doing this on at least a 5 gallon bucket, but probably more like a drum.

I would suggest to put the filter in a bucket of it's own. In that case, if it springs a leak it will be contained and you will know that it wasn't compatible with the acids.

Yeah, I'd rather just source the proper component ahead of time....cause if it springs a leak, it'll be at 60 psi, in which case a bucket won't help much.

Snow why don’t you use GSPs wick filter that leaves solids and just removes liquids, you can set it up and leave it to its own devices until it has done its job.

I'll post more on waste treatment this summer when I've got more time to build my setup...but it's just not what I want.

As an example, I've got a drum with lets say at least 30 gallons of fixer right now. I add steel wool, the stuff that remains just doesn't settle out, even with help. So I want to be able to pump it out, catch all of the sediment, then pressure wash the barrel, and pump it out again. The filter cartridge is just more universal....and while I'd love to do a bag filter like what Palladium posted, it's still beyond my financial capabilities right now, and I don't see them show up on the used market (in a resistant polymer form).

The first time i ever used those bags with a head was for 800 gallons of fixer sitting in barrels in a field! A wise man named Catfish turned me on to them.

Lol....yeah, now that I know what they are I'll be on the lookout for one in stainless. I'll find one at the scrap yard, it will just take time. It would work for most of what I do, and only the ar would need plastic.

So the head is what presses the bag outwards against the walls of the filtration vessel? I'm assuming that whole assembly then goes inside of the filtration vessel that costs a couple grand.

Ok, finally watched the video...those things are pretty snazzy!

That should do exactly what I want!
