i really dont understand why he is using silver to get the gold out..

I have about 1 kg of Scrap Gold jewelry and want to get the danm gold out.. men i dont know how yet..

someone in here can help.. ;)

He's using a process called "inquartation". Most karat gold has some silver in the alloy. When the silver content reaches around 10% or so, it interferes with the process of dissolving gold in aqua regia. The silver doesn't dissolve well in AR, and it forms a crust on the pieces, preventing the acid from fully dissolving the gold. So he's adding silver to the karat scrap to reach a level where the gold is only about a "quarter" of the entire weight (inquartation). Then he dissolves the silver and other metals originally used in the karat gold alloys, leaving behind fairly pure gold which will dissolve in AR.

The process is described well in the book in my signature line below.
