Hello,

I am currently considering making custom silver jewelry pendants, the designs are of my own creation and need to be custom made. Initial design pattern will be made with a 3d printer. Im aware of the high degree of risk in personal injury and fire hazard involved in smelting. I do not want to get hurt or burn everything down. I have no understanding towards mold making and materials to use. I would like to properly study and review literature or video training from professional's before even considering moving forward. So far, the literature I have found is not well structured towards learning and visual aids. Any Suggestions as to specific books, quick reference charts or training courses would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any and all help

Keb,

This is a refining forum, meaning we can help you purify the silver you mess up in your attempts to make your pendants, but I suggest you try a jewelry making forum to learn the fine art of jewelry casting.

What you need info on is casting. May I suggest you start with Rio Grande and watch some videos they offer on casting and mold making.

If custom made pendants is what you are after, then I suggest you to look into PMC (precious metals clay). It was invented for artists who lack the casting skills:

The best thing about it is that you can make it yourself:

As 4metals already said, this is a refining forum, not a jewellery making forum.

For anything relating creating jewellery (that we later melt down) is to visit ganoksin, https://www.ganoksin.com/
That is the number one forum for jewellery and related information.

For the record, i would highly recomend the following book.
Written by; Murray Bovin,
"Centrifugal or Lost Wax Jewelry Casting for Schools, Tradesmen, Craftsmen"

My own copy of the book has been a well worn and beneficialy used shop book for me.

Try your local college/university CE (Continuing Education) programs.

I've been able to take classes in lost wax casting, sand casting and glass casting through various CE programs. Hands on and very professional education opportunities.

Best,
James
