I am looking for The Platinum Metals by E.A. Smith, and any other good books by him.
I have Googled my brains out and had no luck so far.
Anyone have a source please let me know.

I have The Sampling and Assaying of the Precious Metals.
found Working in Precious Metals on Amazon

thanks

I found it on Google Books but you only get a snippet view. No download.

https://books.google.com/books?id=PtAoAQAAMAAJ&q=platinum+metals+intitle:platinum+inauthor:smith&dq=platinum+metals+intitle:platinum+inauthor:smith&hl=en&sa=X&ei=zuShVN7qE8iRyATs1oGgAw&ved=0CB8Q6AEwAA

Or, you can buy it for $30 and $3.50 S&H. There is a 2nd copy about 2/3 down the list @ $48 + $20 S&H.

It seems that it was published as part of an 8 book series on commodities and industries. I have no idea, but there may be little or no technical info in it. Have you seen the book?

No, i haven't seen much more than you did concerning "The platinum metals by E.A. Smith"

In refining precious metals wastes by CM. Hoke we have
"chapter E" books to read
Miss Calm Morrison Hoke wrote:
"The books and articles that are listed below are mentioned either because they are useful or because they are interesting to the worker in precious metals."

I did a little search on those books and it "kind of snowball-down-the-hill".

Best regards,
Richard.

I have the book, I will have to read through it again to tell you if it is worth buying or not.
It is 123 pages, but it is "pamphlet" size 5"x7".

I looked through the book, and it has a historical summary, physical and chemical properties, industrial uses, the platinum industry, prices. (All from the 1920's view point) If you collect any and all books on the subject, then you probably want it.

I think "A History of Platinum and its Allied Metals", by Donald McDonald & Leslie B. Hunt would be a better book to buy. Free download on Google Books;

The old Baker and Bishop catalogues are interesting as well, and may be another option to buy other than the E. A. Smith book.

Hi Jim. I tried to get the book at the link you suggested, and couldn't find how to do it. Is it still available?. Thanks.

It is still there.
- Look for the little "gear in a box" on the top right hand corner, under sign in.
- Click that gear and four options should be available, download PDF should be the last option.
- Click that, answer the captcha and it should download.

"The petty little platinum wars". To be published by research135... or not.

"In the book, copyrighted by Johnson Matthey: "A History of Platinum and its Allied Metals",by Donald McDonald & Leslie B. Hunt, there is noticeable lack of any mention whatsoever to the work of Edward Wichers and Raleigh Gilchrist, among many others".

Such is the petty nature of men and women generally involved in the precious metals industries...
