Well I finally made it to the "mountains", 1100 feet elevation anyway. Now that I'm unpacking, I finally managed to get a picture of my grandfather's metal detector. Yes at some point I'll put some batteries in her and see if she still squelches in any proper fashion. Thought you'd enjoy...

Good luck to you, but that unit is to modern metal detectors what a 1965 transistor radio is to a modern cell phone. I'm 60 years old and it was probably manufactured when I was still in high school. It theoretically could find gold, but your chances are low.
