hello to everyone, stumbled across this forum and think its great.heres a lesson i learned with metal detecting.some years ago my grandfather gave me a small lucky horseshoe which his sister had found just before ww2.on it was engraved yeate,s luck, which happened to be our family name.he carried it through the 4 years he was in the army, fighting in the desert and sicily.i carried this safely in my wallet for some time, one day i was detecting a known roman area along the river itchen in southampton england.i found a bronze roman coin and put it in my wallet, later i found another and as i put it into my wallet i saw that the other coin and my horseshoe charm had gone.some stiching had broken on the wallet.i searched all day and lots of times since but i have never found it.i would rather find that than a solid gold roman coin.
good luck.
