I am in need of a small amount of potash. I just bought an H/O torch and need new electrolite for the cell. I found a place online but, min order is 8lbs. A 1/4 cup will last me a very long time. I do not want to store 8lbs of potash.

Question, does anybody know where I can get a small amount of potash?

Thanks,
Derek.

On the german wikipedia I found this old method, maybe it could help you:

K2CO3+Ca(OH)2 -> 2KOH + CaCO3

I have to correct a little mistake:
commonly called caustic potash: KOH
commonly called potash: K2CO3

K2CO3 can be made by extraction from white ashes from plants (botanic)
Ca(OH)2 can be made by glowing CaCO3 followed by a reaction with H2O

or you just buy potash (K2CO3) as a baking ingredient and slaked lime (Ca(OH)2) from your DIY market.
