Hello everyone,

I have some pure gold that was fused to a copper backing for an electronic contact. Would nitric acid be sufficient in removing the copper that came off with the gold?

Thanks!

In theory, yes.

If it has not been alloyed together, in that case you'd need there to be no more than 25% of gold (inquartation) in said alloy for nitric acid to work properly

You could also use AP to dissolve the copper but add only a very little peroxide, it’s slower but a lot cheaper and more easily available to many members, another alternative to the peroxide is to add an air bubbler which also works to dissolve the copper.
