Check out this lightning strike on the water.

Notice the red colored gas that is generated.

Is that fuming nitric acid that was produced?

Looks like the lightning hit an underground electric line, or underground metal conduit of some kind and followed it underwater.
I don't believe the red smoke is from any form of nitric. The level of nitric it would take to cause that result, would be extremely toxic to anything on the water.
My guess is algae, or based on the surrounding area, the water could've been highly tannic.
But that is just my opinion.

You may be correct.

Looks like DET. Cord going off and then explosives exploding in the water. Someone wanted some dredging done.

I just saw something on the news about ammonium nitrate in bombs in the middle east.

It talked about a red gas coming from the explosion. Wish I could of recorded it.

Could this be the source of the explosion?

Demolition charge.

Don't know how I missed that, but you're right. There's no lightning at all.

That is exactly what it looks like. I'm embarrassed that I missed that, considering I haul A&E's.
Good call on that.
Also the red cloud could've been from sodium/potassium nitrate used in the explosive material..

You can find it on Youtube.

It took me a little longer than expected, but I have the story.
This was explosives. It was performed to break up bedrock under the exit waterway from a lake in preparation to build a pier.
It was done by a company in Finland called Merilaituri. They specialize in building unique and high end types of docks.
And Rick was right, one of the explosives they use, is ammonium nitrate sticks with detonator caps inserted into the ends. If you watch the video below, which is a little longer, you can see parts of trees and stumps cresting the waters surface up and down, for a long period of time after the explosions.

Here is another video where they broke up bedrock on a beach, so they could build a dock. Notice the tell tale red cloud after the explosions.
