I am real glad to have found this forum and hope to To continue learning as well as sharing my experiences with all those willing. My background is a hoot!I am 56 and have highschool chemistry only but have worked for a major medical company that was on the Forbes 500 list,I ran the production in the warehouse and mixed the formulas for particle counting equipment.I also did prospecting(still am )and did some of my own leaching ,scrap metals recycling and soforth. The problem I have is there are to many holes in my education and i need them sorted out.I have a copy of CW Ammen's book and a copy of the CRC 81st edition chemical bible(big fat heavy sucker I also am reading Hokes which I downloaded from this site(many thanks)but I havnt been able to download anything from scribd or a few other sites as I dont have a credit card and i live way out in the middle of no where in basically a ghost town and internet is on a satellite dish.So if some one says theres a free download then make sure its free all the time and not just for a short while and then u pay like scribd.
So heres where the interesting part comes.A lot of my education came from a clown who is a psycho path as far as Im concerned. He was a monkey see monkey do type of guy and would always miss something in the steps which of course would screw things up.I was the only guy around with this group that could work with him.But i had the sense to back off when ever i thought something was wrong and it paid off well as far as safety was concerned and i would research stuff when ever i had the chance and kept track of what ever I could but i still missed out on things I knew where important and that is where I need help. This clown had his circle of professors and chemists that he drew his information from and sometimes I wondered if they purposely gave him false info at times.I also question some of the assay companies I have used in the past as I could get 3 different readings from 3 different companys on the same sample of crushed ore sent in.So what I would like to do is clean up what is around here and salvage what can be salvaged and then set up something straightforward and simple for future use.Any contributions on info greatly appreciated. Thanks
Herman

Welcome to the forum.
When you say you sent 3 samples in for assay now did you prepare them?
Did you crush the ores sieve and sample or just send 3 bits of rock off?
It's easy to complain but do you have a good reason to do so, assays are only as good as the sample sent, if you say you had three different assay results I would have to say your sampling was poor or your expecting too much from the assayers, how large was the difference, if we are talking in grams a ton then expect it.

Hello Herman, welcome to the forum!

I quoted your whole text, putting my additions in bold.

I am 56 and have highschool chemistry only but have worked for a major medical company that was on the Forbes 500 list,I ran the production in the warehouse and mixed the formulas for particle counting equipment.I also did prospectingis this prospecting the only source of material you will be processing, or do you have other things you will be recovering/refining?
(still am )and did some of my own leaching ,scrap metals recycling and soforth. The problem I have is there are to many holes in my education and i need them sorted out.

I have a copy of CW Ammen's book and a copy of the CRC 81st edition chemical bible(big fat heavy sucker I also am reading Hokes which I downloaded from this site(many thanks)but I havnt been able to download anything from scribd or a few other sites as I dont have a credit card and i live way out in the middle of no where in basically a ghost town and internet is on a satellite dish.So if some one says theres a free download then make sure its free all the time and not just for a short while and then u pay like scribd. If you would like, I can email you copies of all of the books that I downloaded when scribd was still free, send me a PM

So heres where the interesting part comes.

A lot of my education came from a clown who is a psycho path as far as Im concerned. He was a monkey see monkey do type of guy and would always miss something in the steps which of course would screw things up.I was the only guy around with this group that could work with him.But i had the sense to back off when ever i thought something was wrong and it paid off well as far as safety was concerned and i would research stuff when ever i had the chance and kept track of what ever I could but i still missed out on things I knew were important and that is where I need help. This clown had his circle of professors and chemists that he drew his information from and sometimes I wondered if they purposely gave him false info at times.
It could be that the professor's and chemists did not truly know, refining is obviously based on chemistry, but hydrometalurgy is a very specialised field, it's best to give the benefit of the doubt sometimes

I also question some of the assay companies I have used in the past as I could get 3 different readings from 3 different companys on the same sample of crushed ore sent in.Nick gave great questions, if it was just a chunk of ore sent, it's very likely all 3 are different

So what I would like to do is clean up what is around here and salvage what can be salvaged and then set up something straightforward and simple for future use. What exactly do you have to clean up and salvage? Some more details on this will benefit you greatly, as the local pro's can give you some sort of guidance, without knowing more though, I am afraid any guidance could lead you astray, if it could be correctly given at all

Any contributions on info greatly appreciated. This forum is hands down one of the best learning resources around, and it is full of intelligent people, all willing to helpThanks
Thanks for joining our community! (not trying to be rude, but) when making a long post, please try to separate it out into paragraphs, that way its a bit easier to read and not all drawn together. I'm blind in one eye, so it takes awhile to get through long paragraphs without spacing

Again, welcome to the forum, enjoy your stay. There are some members that have links in their signature lines, all are very good to read and have tons of answers to questions you didn't/don't even know you have yet! It is a rarity when I dont have more than a couple dozen tabs opened up on my phone and laptop.. Lots to soak in here... LOTS!
