This gold came from a deplating cell that I posted about here:

The gold was Dissolved Twice in AR.
The AR looked right, good color.
I tried to use minimal SMB to avoid any drag down. A little less then a 1:1 ratio.
After dropping the solution was nice and clear both times.
The powder was a nice light brown color.

But, I got a strange "stain" on the button when it was melted.
Can anyone tell me what this "stain" is?

My scale weighs it at 31.280 grams

I didn't have any sulfuric acid to clean the flux off after melting, so I put 10ml of water in a beaker, and then added 2ml of 68% nitric.

After warming up I added 3 grams of sulfamic acid to make sulfuric. It worked fine and removed the flux. But after rinsing I had a "stain" on the button.

It finally occurred to me to try washing the button. The stain washed off with dishwashing detergent and the button looks great now.

Then I noticed that crystals had precipitated from the water in the little beaker. I guess these are sulfamic crystals I don't know

I feel like an idiot. Everything seemed to be perfect up to that point.

The button looks perfect now.
