Does anybody know how to remove the enamel coating off of transformer wires? I've tried acetone, lacquer thinner, paint stripper and hot NaOH. Nothing seems to touch it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. :?

The "enamel" consists of a plastic called formvar mixed with other components and then cured by heat. The surface is very tough and cross linked so the only simple way I can see is to use abrasives or a knife to scrape the isolation off or to use heat and burn it off.
