questions about jewelry scrap gold and copper

I have a feeling I know what you all will tell me about this but I will ask anyway.

I have jewelry scrap and I placed it in AR, everything dissolved fine but you could tell there was a whole lot of copper because my AR turned green, with that being said do I need to get the copper out before I try and drop the gold or can I drop the gold and hope I get all of it, since its so dark you can barely see through it, if I need to get the copper out first what would I use? This way I can see the chemical reaction for the AR and dropping the gold out of solution.

Drop the gold first. You don't need to be able to see through the solution. You'll know you have dropped all the gold when the solution tests negative with stannous chloride.
