Hi all
Just 2 questions.
1 Is 55% Nitric acid strong enough to dissolve base metals?
2 Can I use 55% nitric acid and 30% hydrochloric acid to make Aqua Regina? If yes what is the recipe?

thanks

Yes. Yes.

The ratio is 3 mols HCl to 1 mol hno3. But since you titre nitric to effect, it doesn't matter.

Please make sure that you understand what Snoman701 said about 'titre nitric to effect', the fact that you inquired about the recipe suggests that you don't know "how" to do it.

As Kernels said:

Use your HCl and add Nitric "as required." That's the plain English version.

So to answer your question yes those acids are both fine for making AR. Cover your product in HCl and add small quantities of Nitric, let the reaction build, peak, and finish, and then add another small quantity. Keep doing that till all your metals are dissolved.

You'll get more experienced as you learn but do this first and don't be premixing otherwise you'll end up with a large amount of Nitric to get rid of at the end.
