So, being in Australia , the hcl i have is the contaminated kind... the kind that turns red with hydrogen peroxide.

Done my reading and found the thread here relating to this and seems will still be OK to use for AP however will it be OK to use for making stannous? It is 28% and bought from Clarke rubber advertised as filtrite pool acid.

I'm sure it will be fine. toss in some tin and let it dissolve.

Stannous is used to test for precious metals in dirty solutions, a bit of dirt from the tin or HCl shouldn't matter a lot.
Test it on a barren solution as well on solution with gold chloride and you'll learn how it reacts.

Thanks... the contamination is from washing minerals so chemical not physical.
my tin is clean and pure 100%. will give it a go and see what comes out..
