Anhydrous AlCl3 reacts vigorously with bases, so suitable precautions are required. It can cause irritation to the eyes, skin, and the respiratory system if inhaled or on contact. Aluminum chloride has been established as a neurotoxin. Neurotoxins are an extensive class of exogenous chemical neurological insults which can adversely affect function in both developing and mature nervous tissue. The term can also be used to classify endogenous compounds which when abnormally concentrated can prove neurologically toxic. Though neurotoxins are often neurologically destructive, their ability to specifically target neural components is important in the study of nervous systems.

This compound can be inadvertently created when dealing with aluminum dissolved in hydrochloric acid. I've used aluminum to cement metals out of solution.

that is exactly why you should not use aluminium sauce pans.the little particle that rub off hit our stomack acid's and form nasty compounds.
Still much like lead in petrol no one actually died every one world wide just got a little dumber.
Even with the The Camelford water pollution incident with 20 tonnes of aluminium sulphate being dumped into drinking water ,July 1988, no one actually died but thousands of people clame to have been ill ever since.
It has also been linked to parkinson's disease which when you look at it's mechanics and preference to neurons when it comes to toxicity makes real sence.
Thanks for reminding people.
my other pet hate is Nickle brazing as the nickel nitrate has to be handled very carefully if it is ever agitated and can become air born even in little droplets.
