Welcome to the forum.
Can you tell us what you intend to refine, ready built systems are rarely good value and usually come with compromises in what they can and can’t do.
Reading the description of those units it seems you could do the same with a beaker and a heater and dilute nitric acid which would cost around $100, unless they are supplying fume extraction and scrubbing with the units at that price they seem very expensive.
If you can describe your materials and aims we can help point you in the right direction which will be a lot cheaper but might need some study on your part.

Hi Nick

I am looking at refining some alluvial gold. So not a lot of junk to filter out.
Electro chemistry seems ideal given the lack of toxic gasses but does require some specialised equipment such as a semi permeable membrane (usually ceramic) for a fizzer cell.

I take your point regarding people packaging up common chemicals and charging a fortune. But in this case I am after more specialised equipment. Any pointers to desktop sized fizzer cell equipment would be appreciated.

Most equipment we use in this business is custom made for a specific client or application.
We tend to build our own equipment. First you start with the specs. Then comes the checkbook and design phase. You got the money, I can build you a rocket ship.

Again reading the specs quickly they say you need to alloy the material down to 6 carat if it’s over 9, so my question is if you are going to have to melt your material why not simply melt into a bar and sell as is, you have one of the largest refiners in Australia at the Perth mint who should give reasonable returns.
If that doesn’t appeal then you could very easily refine your material which I assume is probably 95%+ gold either with a wolhwill cell or in AR the latter been the cheapest and easiest option, all refining processes including electro refining produce toxic fumes which will need venting.
If you don’t want to deal with toxic gases and solutions I’d suggest politely refining isn’t for you as unfortunately gold is one of the least reactive elements on earth that require mostly toxic chemicals to recover and refine it.

Well after reading the first part, I got the impression that it is nothing more than an advanced wrapping for a nitric leach after inquarting.
You have to inquart to 6 carat and then you add nitric as electolyte and scope up what is left in there I guess.
Ditch the cell and use a beaker and hotplate and it will take you there in a cheaper way.

First of all I want to say hello & welcome to the forum

Next I want to tell you about the forum you just joined --- this forum was originally started by a young man in Canada (he was still in high school at the time) he started the forum because as a young man he wanted to learn about refining - so he reached out to some "professional" refiners & proposed the idea of a place for refiners to discuss their profession - thus the GRF (Gold Refining Forum) was born

The GRF "soon" became a place not just for professional refiners to discuss there trade but also a place for people interested in leaning about the trade of refining from the "professional" refiners that were willing to share the secrets of this trade --- When I say professionals I am talking about people that ether ran their own LARGE scale refineries or worked at the top of running &/or consulting for LARGE scale refineries - in other words some of the worlds best in the refining trade

You have had 3 people respond to to your question & I want to tell you about them

nickvc --- Nick (as a young man) started out refining working for Johnson Matthey & after a few years (working for JM) started his own refinery - he has been a "professional" refiner for something like 40 years now

Palladium - he joined this forum 13 years ago & this is were he learned about refining (from the professionals) he was a quick learner & soon became one of our (professional) teachers - he has been running his own refinery for most of those 13 years

Yggdrasil --- he joined GRF about 5 years ago - & though he works more on a hobby level - he to was a quick learner (when he first joined) he soon became respected as one of our teachers

I also learned this trade here on the GRF & after spending the first couple years learning here I started my own small/mid size refinery which a ran for about 10 years --- I retired from that about 3 years ago but continue to be active here as a teacher

In my opinion - Nick - Palladium & Yggdrasil are giving you the best advice you will ever get if refining gold is your intent/goal - ditch the idea of trying to refine gold by running it in a cell - its not how "professional" refiners do it --- the company you provided the link to is trying to sell a B.S. process (because they want to sell THEIR product)

Therefore - though we can tell you how to set up such a cell --- what we are really telling you - is that it is just flat out not the way to go about it - there are better ways to refine your gold - MUCH better ways - AND we will be more then glad to help you on your way

There might actually be a time when you want to use electrolysis for a given reason. He's confusing me with the desktop part i guess. If you want a desk top thing then shore has the desktop model. Now if you want something more commercial then we need to know that to. You really haven't given any information.

Thanks Kurt.
I'm honored and humbled to be mentioned in such esteemed company.

When that is said, reading all recommende sources in here and scouring the internet for even more documents, do lead to some slowly accumulated knowledge.
And I am of course happy to share, as others have shared before, still I'm only a student

All of us can become better and increase our skills, and luckily, even if the beginning is tough,
this is when the acumulation of new skills are easiest.

So my recommendation is:
Do not give up, and even if asking a question in here for the solution for a specific problem is easy,
it will pay dividends to try and solve it yourself first, even if you end up having to ask the question anyway.
It will give you deeper insight to the problem in advance.

Again Kurt, thanks for the nice words.
Someday, I may reach the levels of you, Nick and Palladium, some day ..... maybe...... :D

Hi all

I am looking for commercial, desktop sized fizzer cell kits for gold refining.
This is what I have found so far
https://www.goldrefiningsystems.com/Electrolytic-Gold-Silver-Refining_c_1.html
Does anyone know of any other kits?
there is a guy on this site his name is lazer steve well nic name anyway but he he can help you with all those questions i think he has a website with videos as well and may even have a store where you can buy what you need this is the guy who helped me get started doing gold
