I had just precipitated gold powder from a batch of ram fingers using the HCl and bleach solution and then I wanted to refine it again but this time in my excitement I accidentally used the HCl from washing the foils to create the HCl and bleach solution so it’s likely contaminated with copper, maybe some tin and other stuff. It looks like the gold won’t dissolve so what would be the best move?

As long as you have not added oxidizer
( bleach, peroxide , nitric or such).
Just filter it and wash it well with water and warm HCl.
Then start again, with clean HCl this time

Yeah there was already bleach added before I realised which bottle I’d grabbed. It’s very clearly marked USED, not my proudest moment. I’m not actually sure if the stuff floating on top is gold, or something like an impurity that made it into the bottle or whatever. There’s a powder on the bottle that is very similar but it clumps together sort of like clay particles
