Hello all.
I am temporarily living in Georgia, but consider South Carolina my permanent residence.
I have been collecting electronic scrap for 7+ years. I recycle (or sell for scrap) the steel and aluminum housings, and save all of the 'guts' in cardboard boxes. These have been sitting around for years while I tried to figure out how to process them, or who to sell them to. I also have 100+ pounds of x-rays, and have the potential to collect many more 100s of pounds.
I recently bought a book by CW Ammen, with a title similar to Recovery and Refining of Precious Metals. I had to read it multiple times before formulating a plan. Currently, I have been trying to save enough to buy supplies. I was considering a hotplate / magnetic stirrer, pyrex glassware (from the thrift store), and acids from a chemical supply store. I would also like to build a rudimentary fume hood. Now that I have discovered this site, I find that some of these are unnecessary. While happy to learn that I can gather these materials for cheaper, or use different methods, I now have to rethink my original plan.
I am interested in this as a hobby, and look forward to learning a bit, gaining some gold, and being safe in the process.
I thought that I would post this introduction, so that when I start participating in the other forums, you will have an idea of who I am. I am happy to find such an informative and welcoming site.
