Made a little inceneration of some Telecom contacts i fund. Wanted to see how the remains looked like. However i did see something I did not want to see, a green flame. This indicates PVC (Poly Vinyl Cloride)

My question;
Can you incenerate PVC plastic in a safe way, without producing toxic fumes/waste?

If it's old Telecoms then there is no safe way to incinerate it because the fire retardants used often contained POPs.

The things that make fish change *** and alter your DNA. :cry:

Have an interesting read and afterwards let me know how you feel about burning this stuff.

And people still burn chips in their gardens!

Thanks Jon!
You saved my from getting titts.

Neither was the fire ******* any good. It burned very good! :lol: I like how they stated e-Waste as an Source-

Is there any year of manifacture wereafter it can be considered safe?

What is considered a proper way to take care of PVC plastic? If e-waste is an Source, how does the scrap/refiningindustry take care of it?

Or is it like the issue With clorine bleeched paper in Sweden? We dump the dioxine Waste in the Baltic see so we can not eat the Fish. Therefor we Catch the Fish and make fishfodder out of it. Then its exported to Norway to feed their Salomon thats exported all over the world. WE thereby cleaning the Baltic from the unwanted tyoxic. The Norwegian Salomon passes all toxidity tests needed to be tested according to Norwegian law. However the Salomon do not have the same rigious tests as Wild fish :shock:

Burning plastics can be done with an appropriate scrubber. The simplest I can think of is using caustic soda solution

I do not mind to build a scubber. At least i get something i can deliver for proper disposal. Tinking of dry distillation and burn the gasses in a high temerature chamber then do pyrolysis of the remains. Should not be to difficult or costly to do that.

Not to mention, that the combination of aromatic compounds (like polystyrene), chlorine from the PVC and combustion at low temperature and short time, is a “good” way to form dioxin.

The waste burning facility here i live(norway by the way :wink:) have just bin allowed to burn some POPS. The nicer onces like chloronated paraffins and phtalates(i think its transelated). Anything heavyer than that and it needs to go to a specialiced facility.
