Cool I will try that now that a have a good bit to try with. I know a couple said XRF was bad about giving false readings. I'm not saying they don't but ...the model that I used which wasn't mine was like a 30,000 dollar tool...... you would think it wouldn't give false readings, and I had it done by 2 different people like 5 days apart. Same tool but....just seems very unlikely for me to get same exact results using a 30000 dollar tool.....is this thread really about me confirming to the umpteenth degree I have rhodium ore, or wasn't I asking how to just get the rhodium out.... just sayin, let's assume that the rf wasn't wrong....is there any affordable way I can process this? Myself preferably, or time efficient manner I can process it? Do I just grind it all and pan it all? I do thank yall for the advice on assassins and such. But assuming it comes out as positive again, next step?
I hope you have come to a conclusion so far, however I suggest you to analyse this ore with ICP, and also a chemical method named stannous chloride test it might be hard to dissolve rhodium, so find an specialist. Don't forget that 10% rh is much, so don't give much of it to labs.

I recently thought i found gold, i had it XRF scanned and it returned 80-90% Fe and 10-20% Rh (avg from 5 rocks) it also had a very small amount of palladium. I did not know what RH was so i aid damn and took my rocks home, then a dy later i read how valuable Rh is and what Rh is. And i remembered the scans, i did not trust the scans to be done by the same person, and knowing the mind can trick itself i had the scans done a 2nd time on same rocks. so i schedules scans for a different person and he got the same results.

i have more of these rocks many more almost identical to the ones i had tested....my problem is i can find anyone who will process the ore. But i have double verified by XRF scanner good amounts of Rh. one of the rocks weight 20 pounds alone. so if it has 10%...2 lbs, thats half a million dollars right? So here i am sitting on possibly millions, and i cant get it out of the rock?? Ive called several so called noble metal refineries, none will/can do it.
This thread seems to have ended some time ago but I couldn't help but notice the common errors made by many with XRF tests. You may or may not have any Rh in your ore. There are many minerals and compounds that mask other elements in XRF shots.

We use XRF shots on literally hundreds of samples each year but their purpose is only as indicators of minerals in the ore. We do very complex assays of mineral deposits suspect of containing economic values of PGMs. For individuals not equipped or experienced in these processes we recommend using a competent laboratory to have your ore tested. We have had good results from HAZEN in Colorado. But there are several other companies out there.

We recommend you have a semi-quantitative assay done and then consider the more advanced tests and assays if results are favorable. It can be expensive to have all the tests done that are needed to prove the content of precious metal in your ore and a good method of extraction to collect a refinable product.

There are no shortcuts in this industry. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

Good Luck...

Me too. I found myself sitting in the same predicament. I literally hit rock bottom in my life, ain't got a dollar in my pockets but have these rare mineral rocks that could get me out of debt and would sell them for half of what they are really worth because I'm not a greedy person. Everyone wants us me to send them the rock so they can evaluate them and by that I mean steal or "lose them in shipping process". I think we would be better off trying to sell Crack or meth rocks. Don't take that seriously for it is illegal and morally wrong however the market for those is alot bigger so it is a fact just stating. I would like to see some pics of what yours look like for comparison with mine.keep on rocking in the free world my friend

He has not been here since August 2021, so he will most likely not see this.
XRF is not good for ore/rocks.
If you want to know what is in there, with respect to Platinum Group metals, there really is only one way and that is NiS assay.
They are not cheap but they will tell what is there and in most cases what is not there.

Sorry, I did not notice it was your first post.
Welcome to us.
What is your plans ahead with respect to precious metals?

Where are you in PA? I'm in NJ, and could check the minerals in person some time, if it's not too far from me.

Hi Guys, thanks for add me to this forum.
i am trying to make a new post, but its not working (seems like need to be membership to get access fof post publication.

anyway, i choose the topic that related to previous posting.

so here it is:
below is black sand tailing from my sluice, after completed magnetic separation, seems still available residue with same physical and characters quite same as showing in black sand.

my question: did you guys prefer direct on site physical test (for example gravity test?) to conduct as preliminary test to presumable that residue black sand presumable contain PGM mineral (pt pd, rh, ir, ru, os).

and what's about magnetic residue in black sand? can you guys prefer any suggestion test to verify precious might contain in it?.

any suggestion would be regard
thanks for advanced

cheers

As you posted it here, why do you believe you have Rhodium and Palladium in the ore/black sands?

Platinum is paramagnetic due to iron content in it .Black platinum crystals remain after magnetic separation. My ore is black jarosite based with 58 percent iron. High iron is common in platinum group ore.

Alondro: 15 miles past Cabelas
Yggdrasil: isn't there people willing to pay for someone's assay if they are cut in on the deal. This is the same problem with my inventions, you need a patent and I can't afford one.

This is a catch 22 situation.
In order to sell your ore, you need an assay. If you canā€™t afford an assay, what you have is rocks.
To assign a value to those rocks you need to know what they contain, and for that you need an assay.
A proper NiS assay will cost somewhere around 1000 USD.

Read some of the books regarding assaying in the Library. You might manage to do a partial assay by yourself, and such manage to get someone to come in to some sort of partnership, maybe.

Cabelas? I can't find that on a map. I find a store called "Cabela's" that's in Hamburg, and a Cabela Drive.

If there is only one Cabelas in Pennsylvania, that is a good general description of the area. In some states there are several. Do a bit better.

Time for more coffee.

I've never heard of that store before. We don't have one in NJ. And if he is referring to that store, then it would have been pertinent to mention that it's a store and not a town or road. One generally doesn't tell someone the name of a store if they're coming from a completely different state. It's also missing the apostrophe. Should be Cabela's, which would have made it immediately clear it's referring to the store and not something else.
