I used some water to flush out the fine material left in the ball mill and there is a chocolate brown froth floating on top of the water, the froth likes to cling to the plastic bucket. Could this be gold.
 
Most likely fine iron oxide. Dissolve a tiny sample in HCl. If you get a yellow solution, that's likely what it is.

If you ran the ball mill wet, and didn't raise the pH, that's what I'd expect. By adding some hydrated lime, you can prevent rusting. That may not be desirable for your purpose, but it works great if you run ores in an agitation tank.
