What is the meaning or purpose of :Mr Green:? I've seen this randomly in posts and cannot understand the relevancy as there is nothing constant in it's use.

Now that you mention it, I think I've seen that somewhere here also. I used the search bar for :mrgreen and there was several threads with it.... It seems to be kind of like emoji thing.

I did see any mention of a library or candle stick, so I guess the board game "clue" is out of the question..

I think it represent either greed or Money, sometimes both.
It was a symbol/emoji in the old forum software that looked like a green stack/pile of notes.

No, that's the reason why you'll see the text/code ":mrgreen:" instead of the emoji/smiley.
