nitric in plastic bottles for testing(cautionary tale)

I was in the lab last night and the other tech grabbed a small nitric bottle with a squeeze pipet for testing samples in test tubes. he didn't have gloves or goggles on because, he thought he would just do a quick sample and put it back in the lock box. Well when he squeezed the bottle it split down the side and exploded. He luckily didnt get any in his eyes put it was all over his hands. Just a friendly reminder that you never can tell what will happen with some of these chemicals.

lucky It was nitric. you have some time before it starts to burn.

I was tranfering some from a keg and while I was pumping the pump came apart made my skin green brown for a week or so.

if it would have happen with 30% hydrogen peroxide story would have been different, real mean stuff
