I know a lot of people just do it outdoors but for those that use a fume hood do you just vent it to the outside wall of your building? Or do you run your ventilation a certain distance from the building. Also i have noticed some people using scrubbers is that mandatory when your processing large quantitys or just cause you care about the environment? And all I'm dealing with is nitric acid for silver.

NOx is highly corrosive gas, if you are venting it close to any building without first scrubbing the fumes, you are going to do damage. If it's wood, it will make the wood far more noncombustible (EDITED I meant to say combustible, spelling correction got me that time), if you have Al gutters, it will eat them up to.

Ideally you would use a fume scrubber, and then vent above the level of your roof. If you are just venting to the outside, you should not only consider the corrosive quality of the outgas, but you should also consider the health of the animals and people close by. I am sure your neighbors are not going to be happy about the brown rusty color gas floating into their yard, not to mention, if your houses are close, the damage you could do to their building.

If you can afford to, make and use a fume scrubber.

sorry to correct you, but nitric fumes makes wood MORE combustible. if enough fumes are absorbed, it can make the wood ignite without a spark or heat source.

and aluminum passivates with nitric.aluminum should be save as long as hcl is not involved.

other than that, its all good.
