How would you process the pins from HD, CDROM, Floppy drives which have solder and a bit of board still attached, to recover the gold powder. I have nitric and 98 percent sulfuric acids on hand.

Do small test batch in 35% nitric and also one in sulfuric. See which works best or maybe even use them one after another. With small batches you won't have all your eggs in one basket if you mess up.

It's really hard to say with mixed pins.

Do some experiments and work up a good process.

Thanks Steve I'll experiment with some small batch's with the 35% nitric then try the sulfuric. What dilution should I run the 98% sulfuric.

Have anyone else processed these type of pins before it would be nice to hear what process you choose, with your results.

Gus,

Try an assortment of sulfuric acid concentration to determine the best suited for your scrap.

I would not rule out HCl for removing the solder either. It may dissolve the tin and leave the lead as a crumbled solid.
