Is it viable to mix karats when melting (scrap) or is it better to separate them (14kt with 14kt, 18kt with 18kt)?
Am not close to that point yet, but have a love for gold and silver, and was wondering how this part of the melting process works.
For now, I just stack.

Thank you for your time.

Check out sreetips.

He's weighting the different sorts of carat gold. Then he's multiplying the weight by a special factor for each sort. This gives him the amount of sterling silver he needs to get an 6k-alloy after melting all together.

Perhaps we would be better to ask what you intend to do with your scrap and then we could give better advice.
