Solder mask removal

Just watched lazersteve's video's earlier today and had a couple questions.

1) I was curious about any poisonous gasses that may be coming from using Lye?

2) Wanted to make sure if there was any chance of losing any values to the lye process?

The vapors are steam if you use water with your lye as shown in the video.

Hot lye splashes are a real concern so wear your safety goggles and gloves.

To the best of my knowledge lye will not dissolve precious metals at the temperatures used in the video.
