I smell the fumes of the acid when I do basic tests on the stone and I can see the fumes come out of the dropper when I open it. How dangerous are the fumes? When testing the stuff in front of the public how should one proceed?

A drop or two to do the test isn't that much, but you still
shouldn't breath any fumes. If you do lots of testing maybe
you could set up a fan to disperse the fumes or send them
out a window. And tell the customers not to hover over the
items being tested because of the fumes.
