Hey guys, it's been awhile but, I've been into panning and prospecting a bit this summer and I keep finding these different type of quartz with a green mineral either on it or inside of it. I've also run into alot of quartz covered in a silver or gold material. I've tried to figure through research what it is but, I've come up empty handed. I've taken some photos and thought maybe you guys could help. By the way this stuff was found close to different gold mines located here in Maryland. I also found some silver metal that im.not sure what it is or where it's from.

Does look like a possibly gold bearing material, you should smash it as thin as possible and assay it or smash it as thin as possible and pass it thru acid.

Don't use acid safety first with mystery ore. Try mortar and pestle down to flour and pan or some form of gravity separation to check for visible values.

Any acid with unknown ore causes many problems. Creating unstable arsenic compounds is but one. If free gold is not visible, assay a representative sample.

Time for more coffee.

you do a small bit, if it reacts negatively you work to dispose of it , and it all properly. But i do agree it is a bad choice. Trick is testing trace amounts.
