I picked up some very old industrial switches. Each one has six broad, gold plated pins. It seems to be heavily plated. A lot of gold scrapes off with a screw driver before it gets down to a copper base.

My question is, will AP reach the copper if the entire pin is plated?

I can't wait till spring break so I can run some experiments and melt some gold!!!

Sky,

You should run some small batch test to determine the answer. If AP doesn't get the job done, try the stripping cell next with a copper basket. Some of the older switches have a very thick plating. Don't forget to process the internal slides and also save any aluminum from the housing.

Many of the silvery colored switch legs are palladium plated.
