    Fume Hood Exhaust

I'm not sure kitchen vents are suited for our needs.

    I know its expensive but

You are essentially looking to set up a small refining hood in your casting room. I have seen many jewelers in NYC cram a lot of refining into a small space. The easy part is to refine by inquartation and continually recycle the same Silver and incorporate the 99+% pure gold back into alloy...

Such thing as a fume hood out the box ready to go?

Nickster, Nice setup, the 6” fan generates the airflow to induce the suction in the hood. My question is why is the blower in a position where condensation will drip into it? This design is not unlike the thread about setting up a hood with a non corrosion resistant fan, but in that design the...

E-waste scrap in chemical to be processed

...I agree the 6" is too much and I am leaking air through the fan. The 2 inch pipe you see is going through the adapter and stopping in the middle of the T (4 inch pipe at fume hood inlet) maybe a little past mid point. Should my hood inlet be 2 inches as well, and put more the 2 inch past the...

    Building scrubber

Question would too low flow rate make it so there is no pull of air at the intake on the hood but rather just suck the air from the tub of solution making it implode? With that concern is there a flow rate of solution I should be shooting for with the pump. I picked a 400gph with a 6 ft upward...

Gold Wires inside DRAM chip (picture)

...you remove the center to reach bond wires while the chip sits on a hot plate and the drops of sulfuric destroys the resin ( this requires a fume hood ), there probably some other ways but those are all I ever used - maybe other members will share. Both of the mentioned above methods for the...

A gallery of home built hoods and fume scrubbers _hood_

This is great 4metals! Thanks for posting this. I’m looking to build a fume hood and potentially use a similar design for neutralizing the NOx gases. Do you know how effective your system is at this? How often do you have to change each solution?

FIRST REFINING help me not make some rookie mistakes

To be successful at refining you need one of two things. Enough money to purchase professionally made scrubbers and hoods so you can set up safely, or an ability to follow the instructions on threads that have been written many times and fabricate your own equipment. From the equipment built...

Such thing as a fume hood out the box ready to go?

I looked up website for the hood posted by Weehorror. They say on their website “No Need for exhaust ducts. Set up your laboratory where it is convenient and realize significant savings.” They are definitely not marketing to refiners! Set it up where your wife puts on her nail polish…...

E-waste scrap in chemical to be processed

...Limited myself as much as possible and wore a gas mask. Not sure if it helped but just as a precaution. Gonna have to do more tests with my hood I should mention that my fume hood is made out of a liquid IBC container. It may have stored chlorine type substance in the past. Could the...

    Beginners mistakes

...measure the amount of sweat that came from them. Most people measured at 4-6 ounces. And that was only the 10-15 percent that could finish “the mile”. Forget the mask, get a working fume hood, along with the other safety gear, (gloves etc.) learn to use it correctly and get to refining safely.

    SO2 gas reduction

...test in between additions. Every time I pour off the waste, the SO2 just likes to knock my (enter foul words here) in the dirt. Now my fume hood is a problem. I am trying to get the venturi to do the job, but even when using an in-line fan, same problem. I never smell the nitric, or the AR...

...AR. And anything higher than 6 karat will be hampered by too much Gold for the Nitric. Are you sure it was a real Gold alloy? You have a Fume hood which is great, and since it is in the house I expect it is running 24/7 too keep the fumes from chemicals and waste out of the house? Seriously...

    I'm a newbie...Glad to be here.

Oh, and a few things I forgot to mention. I wouldn't use that expensive stir/hot plate in your fume hood, use that outside your hood for mixing stuff not requiring acids. You should also consider using some kind of catch container in case a beaker breaks during the reaction. What type of fan...

Can gas mask prevent acid fume?

It depends on the filter cartridge, but when open the useful life time is very short. So no no mask with cartridges are useful for anything else than escape mask. If you have some pressured air masks like in paint shops or similar that can be useful.

Interested in this Scrubber Design or a Simple Scrubber for Small Scale Refining

One thing to note Goldshark if I may. I've been using a $200 HVAC pump for 6 years for my vacuums. I change the oil regularly and it hasn't missed a beat. Edit for name.

...fume leaked. The smell was not that bad, but sure not so good for long term health. As you said: On closer look what I do not see is the hood exhaust. When a refining hood is set up the preferred method is to have 2 actual forms of exhaust. The first is considered fugitive emissions by the...

...well I’m gonna try my best not to extract the gold but once a month unless I build up real quickly I think once a month is fine it’ll save so much all that chlorine gas. ...pulls 214 cfm at 350 watts. That could make a handy little scrubber in a 55 gallon drum. As long as you keep up the caustic additions the blower will last even longer. And they make bigger ones for the hoods. Definitely worth a try. Bouncy house blowers, never stop learning on this...

But judging from the looks of...
