Heat panels - ceramic imbedded coils furnace build questions ideas .

I can't be sure , but there was a spole of 18ga nickel chrome wire . I do not plan of refining at this time - no space of a vacumm hood yet . My 1st project is to burn off organics from ICs . With number of panels I have , a secound unit would be use to make a heater / rotisserie to drop chips...

Such thing as a fume hood out the box ready to go?

Any information on the stand used. It really adds a nice touch over a home built wooden platform.

...All piling up from years and years of saving ..... I dont think i have enough to start just yet but i do have alot...... I am going to make a hood and vent system out in the shed before doing any of that chemical work...... But i hope to be able to get the most out of what i have from my...

    Silver refiner from Scotland

Yeah got an EPP Licence, which was a big struggle haha and I have been watching lots of sreetips. Awesome to have someone else from Scotland here

    Silver Chloride conversion success!

Mask is not recommended, that is emergency evacuation gear and not for refining. Waste needs to be treated properly, not only neutralized and disposed of. Simply laid out: First one use Copper to drop what ever PMs is left in solution and then Iron is used to drop the Copper. Then the solution...

    Smoke extraction

The little guys are using torches and nothing but the wind. But then again melting clean precious metal do not pose much risk. If you do a full smelting operation that is totally different saga.

Safety of evaporating depleted silver/copper nitrate

I'm a bit puzzled. Why did you use KCl?? NaCl, HCl or any Chloride will do. Have you read the thread dealing with waste? You can cement out any Copper using Iron.

    TheBhut Intro

Welcome to us. How do you process the PCBs? There are no Pd in the boards themselves, unless they are very old or military/space related. There may be/are some Pd in the MLCCs in some high end equipment. These are best treated with smelting.

    I'm a newbie...Glad to be here.

Study how fume hoods are made and how they work. Many of the acidic fumes are heavier than air and will flow to the bottom of your fume hood and escape your box out the front to contaminate your work area, The hood should be designed to pull air from the top and the bottom at the same time...

    A.I. designed fumehood

and this is why i wanted to discuss it. first off what is the error with scrubbing 100 percent of the air from the fumehood? to me this sounds like a positive thing not a negative when dealing with these gasses. second what do you mean about the carbon filters? im not really going for longevity...

Aqua regia process post sulfuric stripping

...liquid (ie. copper in solution) maybe the gold bound to that. I'll cement it all out and future Gregory might know what to do about it. The fume hood did most of the extraction but it would not have handled a strong reaction. I will build a better one and a scrubber as well before I do that...

An affordable method for accurately determining the concentration of gold in solution.

You'll hate this, but I've always done quick and dirty analyses on pins by fuming in sulfuric and weighing the gold on a Gooch crucible. Not something to do without a fume hood and analytical balance!

My Plan - New to Refining. I would love a review please.

...rise, if so I need to leave space to prevent overflows? Finally how long should I allow this to react? Should I cover it loosely? Is it OK standing outside without a hood? 5. Next comes separation of the foils but let's get these first steps first and allow for comments from other AP...

    Making my own Fume Hood!

I’m building a fume hood for gold/silver refining. I would like to know if I’m using Nitric concentrate 67% to 70% or Sulfuric Acids, what cfm air flow would be needed for this?

    Silver Chloride conversion success!

So I set that solution aside earlier and just looked at it. There’s a half inch layer of brown liquid on the surface and under all that is a really dark green color. Not sure what’s going on. My stannous test isn’t working for some reason. Maybe it’s to old I’m not sure

...to 4" didnt cut it im thinking about just going 6" from the blower all the way to the roof instead of 4". i really dont expect to be using the hood very much ill be lucky to get a batch to refine once a month and probably not alot at any one time so im hoping my wet scrubber will capture most...

That depends entirely on what you do. A Cupric Chloride leach or simple HCl it will do. For NOx it is not sufficient, that is why I suggested the flask train. Or you need a scrubber of sorts. The flask train is driven by by a proper vacuum system, either with an e-ductor system or a real...

    amount of nitric acid needed

You should get yourself a fume hood. And yes around on per gram of Silver and around 4 fro Copper. Parting and Nitric will do for most unless higher purity is needed.

    Need a HCN gas detector

...even with YEARS of experience & knowing ALL the safety protocols Yes - this is safety protocol #1 --- In fact I spent yesterday building a hood specifically for doing this job in a small room separate from where I do my acid work IMO - this is one of those things where the old saying comes...

    Fume Hood Exhaust

You kind of answered your own question. With your suction setup all of your air velocity was pointed down the big tube, so the vacuum created was maximized. I’m assuming that in your second design the pipe doesn’t extend into the larger pipe. In a Venturi, the vacuum is created perpendicular...

    I know its expensive but

This is doable for a modest setup like you are thinking about. The main thing here is your hood and your scrubber. Both can be made by a reasonably DIY capable refiner. Then it's just glassware and chemistry. You will find that perfecting the process for the lot sizes you currently...

...wanted to say thank you very much for the digital copy that I was able to download. Well I have retired and I’m now back prospecting and bought a little gold scrap that I have refined. My plan is to build a fume hood and scrubber so I can ramp it up and offer my services locally Again thank you

...refining as well. I will look for a package reflux setup to do the Platinum digestions in, and post it here when I find it. In the interim, look into what you need for exhaust hoods and fume scrubbing to do this in your workplace. All of that information is available here on the forum.

Refining Precious Metals as a Business-Startup _hood_

Your needs are going to be relative to what you actually want to do but the first thing you are going to need is a decent fume hood with extraction and fume scrubbing for the out put especially if you are in an area with neighbors, chances are that these days you will probably need licenses...

For the LIFE of me I cannot get my gold to drop! 😭

I have re read from the beginning. The Magnetic stirrer might be the reason you manage to dissolve the Gold. What did you do with the Silver Chloride? Much of your Gold may be trapped inside the Silver Chloride.

    Solder removal

...clean HCl, use inert electrodes. Try which type do not dissolve. Paperclips will leave zinc and iron chloride in solution. Set your amps low enough so there are no bubbles forming. This will reduce chlorine gas being formed and electrodes being dissolved. All chemistry in a fume hood!! Martijn.

Cheap home made scrubbing unit (theoretical design) _fumescrubber_

sorry. I never even considered that there weren't native speakers.I will do my best to be considerate. Am I correct in thinking that the fume hood pushes gas into a vacuum that pushs air out of a pipe to bubble the gas through the water?

Reduce sulfurous odor from waste products to be reused?

...etc. I have about 2-3 gallons of waste that's largely water. I completely uncovered the bucket to improve evaporation. I do not have a fume hood. I would never do gold refining work indoors, or even in my garage which is mainly used to house two muscle cars. I work in an outdoor, covered...
