    Copper electrolysis under a fume-hood?

A two-part question since I don't currently have a fume hood : 1. Must one use a fume-hood when running a small batch of copper electrolysis, or are the fumes minimal after the solution has been made and the power is on? 2. One needs to mix sulfuric acid after making the copper sulfate water...

    Fume Hood Fan Speed Doubt

This is the image from Ammens book. Note the end of the pipe is just past the opening of the hood. If it ended before the hood opening there is a strong possibility it would blow into the hood. Your venturi jpeg is making things more confusing and it isn't helping. This ain't rocket...

If you use a venturi to suck air from the hood, it does not matter which kind of fan you use. As long as the output is good enough to make it work. Test the flow at the opening of the fume hood with the smoke of an incence stick. A venturi basically means creating a conical restriction at the...

Amazing idea I will work on incorporating that into my hood. I'm working on the scrubber atm. I am a wood working hobbyist so the hood build isn't that much trouble.

...is to treat the worst of the fumes but the scrubber cannot be the only exhaust. You still want to aim for 100 CFM for every square foot of hood opening. That will remove any leakage and provide for a much nicer work environment for you. A plus of an effective fume scrubber is it will make...

...enough to compress the airflow through the taper because the air that expands back to its original volume is what draws the air from the hood. So keeping the resistance as small as possible for that flow of air out of the hood into the duct is critical and a strong fan is needed to compress...

I think this is how he thinks about bathroom fans, without the main fan no venturi. They will fail relatively fast but will be inexpensive. https://goldrefiningforum.com/threads/a-gallery-of-home-built-hoods-and-fume-scrubbers-_hood_.34601/post-378283

...your vertical airflow it will cause back pressure issues. I would angle the horizontal up at a 45 a few feet past where it picks up the hood air and insert a second TY a few feet above where the vertical TY picks up the hood air. This way you would have both airstreams well on their path...

For what it is worth, I would suggest using a large plastic tote as a fume hood instead of the cabinet.

Since suction increases with the reduction of pipe size. Maybe a 2" pipe at hood going into the 4" pipe with packing with a flex pvc hanging closer to beaker would be better. The IBC sounds like a good idea but I have the 2x4 and ply already so it's a 0 cost factor.

I think his venturi is on the side branch to vent the fumes from the vacuum system. But by restricting the blower he will get less effect in the main hood. Another thing is that he might want to run the intake in the hood behind a baffle plate so it sucks the air from the bottom back.

I guess I'm also concerned that if the water flow is to high thru the packing it could back up and cause a back up of gas in the hood.

melamine fume hood build more space? or better air flow?

For the lighting, cut an opening in the top of the hood a little bigger than the light. Then cut a piece of plexiglass a little bigger than the opening to fit over it, and silicone it on top. Then you can put your light on top of it (leave a little space to allow for ventilation) outside the...

To be clear, it appears that you have the blower mounted on its side so the air intake is 100% over the hood exhaust port? If this is true it will never function as a venturi as the concept of a venturi is to compress the air as it passes over the hood exhaust port and allow the air to...
