Any thoughts on what the appropriate amount of evaporation would be? say for 500ml of AR Evaporate down to 100ml before adding HCL?

Just a little confused, I see "to a thick syrup" used a lot here, but it is looking like syrup as soon as the metals are in solution so not sure when to call it good.

breaking down Ore
Highly pretreated with cooking @ 750%+ for over an hour and HCL baths
4:1 AR

Just looking for places to possibly speed things up if its an option.

Got a new batch that is about to be at this point so I will take a couple pics of the syrup from the start if it helps.

If you make only as much AR as you need at a time(add small increments of nitric) this shouldnt be a big deal. I try to keep track of how much water I have added to an AR digestion. Then I evaporate only that much off. ex 200ml of AR with 50ml water. Evaporate off 50 ml. Always works great for me.

I have not thought about evaporating off the amount of water that was added, may have to look into that.

As for the "add small increments of nitric" I am still playing with what the appropriate amount is. Using Ore so its been difficult to figure mathematically, when i have done more batches and have better numbers to go by I hope to have the problem solved.

Thanks for the reply.

What kind of Ore are you processing? Has it been pulverized? AR might not be appropriate for your situation.

Its mostly black sand concentrates run through a crusher till its more or less silt.
Ore is problematic with acids - the unknown base metals & their percentages can wreak havoc with your process. Have you been over to the "Mining/Prospecting/Assaying" section? Rick the "Rockman" is our resident specialist in that arena.

good luck.

Here's a better working definition.

Keep evaporating until you've expelled all the nitrogen oxides. If you add some concentrated HCl to the boiled down 'syrup' and you see no more red cloud, you're there!
