Before taking a walk down this path make sure the discs you have are sputtered in gold. The silver "looking" discs are most likely, (greater than 99% likely), to be aluminum. The mass produced for the home market discs are almost always Al, a few special releases, etc, were gold.
I worked in the disc production industry for 10 years and used Al and once in a blue moon gold. I never heard of anyone using silver.
The discs that targeted the professional market and were re-recordable were the ones with the most gold content. NASA used a boat load of them back in the day.
