Which one does it matter. I use up to 30 volts volts DC. Hotplate with magnetic stir, distilled water... does anyone know if ac voltage must be used instead?

Apologies. I use .9999 copper cathode and .9999 gold anode. Colloidal gold via electrolysis. And for sublingual, consumption, add to drinking water...Welcome to us.
You need to give us more information.
For what purpose are you using it and what material.
I was using sodium bicarbonate, but I will try citrate like tou said since ive heard that more than once now..I'm not a pro but I'm really into all of this. Gold seems to be harder than the other colloidal metals. Should I be using something external to limit the current? Im using a simple voltage dc generator. Thanks alot Adam.dc voltage is used and low current.
I used to make this a while back.
Have a recipe somewhere and it worked pretty good.
EDIT ADD: But I remember an extra additive. Think it was a tiny bit of sodium citrate.
