Hi. I'm new to the board, and have recently started purchasing PM's. Does anybody know of a refiner in Memphis, TN to buy my scrap? Mostly sterling. There's so many posts about people using a refiner that they mail off their product to, and the melt weights and assays being waaaay off. Makes me leary of mailing my stuff off.

you can take your material that has a hallmark and either swap it for refined stamped bars or rounds, or sell it to a reputable buyer and buy bars or rounds. its alot easier than using your material, and when you mail it to a large refiner, as i understand it, you may not get your material back but stock pieces that have the same weights, not that it matters much as long as the weight is right.

i spoke with the owner of the largest jeweler in town here and he told me to bring some samples of my work and he would send it to his refiner and pay shipping and insurance and the deduct the cost from total minus his 3%. and if the samples all came back good he would start dealing with me direct.

Oh, I don't want refined product. I want $$$. :) I'm buying sterling (and to a lesser extent gold) from antique dealers, estate sales, individuals, etc for the purpose of reselling it for a profit.
