Nice find.
Side note, I hate the idea of "Drive by wire". Electrical contacts fail all the time. I'll take linkages and cables any day.

I would be curios if the potentiometer traces contained any PGM in the resistance coating.
I would think they have a fail safety built in, just in case something happened to the "drive by wire" circuit. besides being stuck on the side of the road.

Unfortunately steering and brakes are the only things needing fail safes.
I kinda wish I was younge again and working in the junk auto yard again. Back in the eighties, almost electrical components were encased in a rubbery goo.
