I'm finding that in newer computer boards (like even 5 year old boards that still have AGP), there's BRASS pins in them! The tech guy I picked up this junk board from today said that many of the pins, like for IDE, ect, are BRASS, and that only really high end stuff uses gold anymore if they can avoid it even to plate the pins. I tore the pin open and the golden color goes all the way through, on those pins. And I'm about 110% sure it aint solid gold! Watch out for brass on those PC components, guys! I'm sure there's still gold in the board, but the pins..? Maybe not. If not, brass won't screw up any chemistry will it? Brass is mostly made of copper and varies from half to 95% in content normally, always with zinc, and sometimes with lead, arsenic or aluminum. (ammunition brass being normally 95% copper, and I shoot alot... maybe I had best start hanging onto the stuff on the ground incase I can get that damn zinc out, hahaha.. thank you China for the copper price skyrocket)

Firehawk,

Many types of pins have brass as the base metal. Motherboards produced after the mid 90's tend to have very little gold plate on them due to advances in plating technology, but they are gold plated none the less.

Thanks again, I was worried a bit. Sucks that there's so little, but hey, I'm stockpiling for a learning run, not to run a pound of gold. I just need enough to realize that yes, I can do it, or no, I can not, and figure out what went wrong.
