I work at a jewelry store but i believe I cant work there all my life because I am a student, So I have decided to buy gold or silver from people and melt it at home to make extra cash. I am a good sales man, so I can convince people to sell their jewelry. I am new to this forum, So where should I start from? And where do I buy gold melting kit and other equipments? Also, As we all know, 10k and 14k is very common and most people will be selling that, is there a different method of melting such a hard gold? and How do I extract copper or other metals from the 10k and 14k gold and make it pure gold? I will really appreciate your feedback. Thanks guys

Feedback?
Start with reading Hoke's book. That's especially important if you fancy yourself getting involved with karat gold.

You will have little success coming to this forum without having a clue about refining procedures. We don't work that way. You will be encouraged to read Hoke's book, and to read posts related to your interest. None of us can spend the kind of time it takes to familiarize you with procedures, especially when it is all spelled out for you in clear, concise English, in terms even I could understand (I'm speaking of Hoke's book).

Read Hoke, and do not ask fundamental questions. Those you must learn on your own, or you will wear out your welcome here very quickly.

your reply is very discouraging and harsh, why did you even take your time our to type this reply? What were you thinking? You sound like an 84 jeweler who wouldn't pass his gold business to his sons because he wants them to start from the scrap. please delete your reply, it just shows how negative of a person you are. dont discourage people like that again.

That is not going to happen. I suggest you take his advice and read Hoke's book and all you can here on the forum. That is if you really want to learn.

yeah I will read his book but the way he ordered me to read the book as if I am begging for his help or as if I dont know jackshit about anything. Pshh. He can take his speech somewhere else.

It may help you to know that your language is not acceptable. Refrain from such comments on this forum.

The book you were asked to read is the bible of refinning. And the gentelman you are snubbing can work you out of any problem you run into. You said you work at a jewlery store and can melt gold but yet you asked where to get a tourch and melting dish at. Try to process your first batch and see if you don't come asking for help. Everyone that start out runs into problems some where down the line and needs help. If you come on here with an attitude you will possibly get no help.

You say you are a student. Will the professors hold your hand and make sure you pass the tests or will they send you to the library to study? I have not been here very long but I have seen several come and go, others come and study and learn then post the results of their learning here. Depending on you and your learning ability it may take months or years of your time to refine your first ounce of 999 pure gold.
Please ask the master jeweler how long it took to learn the jewelers trade, I would be suprised if he said anything other than some time for the basics and that he is still learning. There is no quick fast and in a hurry process other than gathering the 10, 14,18, and other materials and sending them to a refiner.
Again look at this forum as being a school and yourself as a student, learn all you can then as you become ready to do the processes you will learn here all the help and knowledge contained by the members here will be at your disposal. Good luck. Work safe and be safe.

wow I am getting bashed big time here, Guys relax I am new, You are all my new friends because I am going to try something totally new which you already know and are extremely good at, So I am basically a student in this business too. The only obstacle in this business is to buy gold from people. and I tried to find the book, I cant find it. Is there a link on this forum?

If you "advanced search" (upper right corner) for the user named "palladium" ("search for author") you will find links to the Hoke book in any of his posts, in his signature lines. It's about 369 pages! Make sure you're stocked up on toner & paper.

Yes you are, because you had made the unreasonable request that someone type out for you what you wanted to know when such information is already available here if you spend some time reading. It did not help when you took offence at Harold’s suggestions and verbally lashed out at him (please notice that he is a Moderator as well as the very first member here). You see, most here have learned much from Harold, including myself. You will find that anyone here with a valuable opinion will require you to do the basics and read Mrs. Hokes book as well as some of the forum before they spend time helping you. The forum is to help you when you run into problems or questions based on what you have read, studied, or have in process. Please do remember that everyone here is helping others for free. That is far from a common thing these days, especially in this secretive trade.

Here is a link to Hokes book

Welcome to the forum

Please show some respect for the people here, especially Harold, he is one of the more knowledgeable people here. I don't ask many questions, but I have learned a lot. I learned because I read what is already posted on the forum. Chances are, the answers to almost anything you will ask is already posted here somewhere. Try starting with this link:

I have a better question. Why do you make your presence here by asking others to give you something while you sit back fat and sassy, knowing nothing?

What were you thinking?
Simple. I was thinking that you are one of many that think the world owes you something---that you need not expend any effort, just ask and have knowledge delivered to you, free of cost.

You sound like an 84 jeweler who wouldn't pass his gold business to his sons because he wants them to start from the scrap.
And you have a problem with that? You think it's perfectly acceptable for others to profit from the efforts of another----and that it is owed to them? An entitlement of sorts?

I don't.

please delete your reply,
If I was to delete anything, it would be your enrollment on this forum. That's what you have earned by running your big mouth. I'm not going to do that, however. I'm going to stand by and see how you behave instead.

it just shows how negative of a person you are.
I'm old enough to know that my response to you was the one that you needed to get----

You, sir, need a wakeup call. You have seized the opportunity to enter a forum where you will find well over 100 years of practical experience in the field of refining precious metals. Here, there are few secrets, with most of those of us that contribute our hard earned knowledge doing so for one and only one reason. That reason it to help others. However, in the process of doing so, each will quickly come to understand that readers MUST do their part. It is up to them to learn the basics, and to learn to ask meaningful questions, questions that are a stumbling block for them. If any of us were to spend the time you are demanding of us, we would be bound to this forum for several hours daily, repeating information that you should already know and understand----and if you don't, you'd be downloading and reading Hoke's book, as you were advised, to rectify that situation.

dont discourage people like that again.
Not only will I do it again, I will do it with reckless abandon. What won't happen again is for you to come to a forum where you are an unknown and assume you are making and enforcing rules.

From this post, I expect that you will have learned a few things. One of them is that you are in a situation that can prove to be very valuable to you. You can lose your right to be here by being a smart ***, as you've been here. I expect a wholesale change in your attitude.

I rarely demand an apology from readers, but in this case, you chose to run your mouth when you had no understanding. I will accept your apology, which will be public, just as the comments you offered were publicly offered.

Understand that moderators, at least here, have the power of life and death over readers, as regards their right to be on this forum. Henceforth, I fully expect you will address each of us with courtesy----which you will also extend to other forum members as well. If you wish to be treated fairly, set the example.

I await your apology.

Harold has been a huge asset to the forum, and gives freely. It takes time and effort to post helpful and useable information here, but it does take initiative to want to learn. There is absolutely nothing to gain by a poor attitude and lashing out at any member. It may be wise to find another resource for your questions.

He won't have many choices now. He's gone from the forum. I left him a perfect opportunity to show all of us that he had a cooperative attitude. He chose, instead, to continue being cute.

That dog doesn't hunt here.
