Hi

I have a blue solution that obviously has copper nitrate, so at pH 1 I added zinc powder and this beige color percitpitated from it and color of solution on top changed to dark blue as seen in the pictures.

By looking at periodic table, zinc drop all metals below it from solution, that include copper, which this residue doesn't resemble copper at all.

Copper nitrate solution that has some other base metals dissolved in it.

Same solution after addition of zinc powder.

what metal is beige in color?

Thanks

Kevin it would help us if we knew what was dissolved in that solution originally because the sludge could be many things.

Hi Nick

The copper dore was from smelting 2kg of hard drive boards which was dissolved in dilute nitric acid, and filtered.
