Most card readers will have gold plating on the pins that contact the pins on the card. I guess the best way to know is to bust one open and see for yourself.
On a semi-related note, I read in an article on the web that smartcards have a microgram (0.001g) of gold plated on the contact area. I've been collecting the smartcards out of the satellite receivers I get in to my recycling business. After 1000 I'll have me a gram of gold, and after 31,100 I'll have an ounce. To that end, I only have about 31,050 to go!
