Last summer everwhere here there were signs buying computers for scrap. Not 1 now....wonder why?....

They probably paid too much to compete with the scrap yards. Most scrapers that get computers will throw them into the breakage pile to get paid fast, and most homeowners aren't going to take their computer to then for $5.00. So there only customer is business and they aren't selling there confidential info to a guy with plastic signs on the highway.

Highway signs are a slow way to make money. amd around me the townships/cities will remove them pretty fast.

i pay $5 for a complete tower and do pretty good at it. i strip them out and horde the electronics and sell all the other metals to the scrap yard. if you do it right, you will make a profit from the non-PM metals and that leaves all of the components basically for free.

I've been wondering for a while... does anyone have a good way to handle the plastic bits from breaking down computers (mainly the molded face)? If I am not mistaken the majority is ABS plastic. I can't imagine landfill is the only option, but even the plastic recyclers around here don't want it.

leave what you can on the computer frame. after it goes through the shredder, the recycling company will get it to where it belongs.
