I have a collection of 574 PM related files, mostly PDFs, that I have accumulated over the last couple of years. These are books, patents, miscellaneous, and a few writeups by forum members. Anything that looked good, I made a copy of it. All are organized by categories. I would like to freely share this with the members but don't know exactly how to do it. The biggest problem is the size - 3.1 gigs. I could easily make DVDs, but I would rather not do that, for several different reasons. Anyone have any ideas? Torrents? Rapidshare? I don't want to have to pay to do this.

I'm sure many of you have similar collections.

Thats alot of space!
My computer wouldn't hold them all so I would have to copy them to cd.
I'm sure somebody will know just what to do.

I have the same problem. I still back mine up on zip drives, but i also post them to the web here. http://www.scribd.com/people/documents/756178-http-goldrefiningforum-com

I may do a torrent as soon as I figure out how. That way, I can keep it all in one file and keep it simple. Does anyone really want this stuff?

I would like to look at it. I probably have about as much as you have, but it is scattered all over on different hard drives and zip drives. I think you can never have enough information, you just need to sort through it and organize it so it is usefull. I will be getting your book soon.

if you compress them to say 200MB files you will end up with say up to 10 files which can be put on hotfile. they allow upload bigger files. you have to pay to set up account there but everytime when somebody will download your files you will get few cents back. after some time and if people will be downloading them you will get back some or all of your money you paid for account there.

Chris,

I'm sure a lot of us would find it useful. I would think a majority of folks on this forum are just interested in basic refining skills and that the more advanced subject matter might just cause confusion.
I archive my data on USB memory sticks and external drives, that way, I can move data from one system to another. I prefer Fujitsu drives because of their low power consumption. They will run off a single USB port without having to use the pigtail to get power from another port.

Had you thought about setting up an archive on your WEB site?

Hi Chris!

If you could make one DVD and send it in the mail to me I could put it on my website for free download and I could also offer it as a torrent. It would finally give me a reason to find out how to create a torrent, not only download them...
I run my website from home so I have more or less unlimited space, just pop in another hard disk whenever I run out of space.

Goran,

Good idea. I don't have that much bandwidth, anyway. PM me your address. It won't be immediate because I loaned out my external burner and have to first get it back.

I've got the same problem with torrents. Lots (and I mean lots) of downloads but no uploads. I know you have to find a tracker(s) - probably public ones. As far as clients go, I've had the best luck with utorrent - small, simple, and unobtrusive. Had I done this myself, I probably would have used Mininova, but it doesn't make much difference. A torrent might also bring some new people to the forum.

If you still interesed in sharing that i can send you my account....and password for a server, and you could upload that information there.Just a thought.

Hi Chris
Since are in this thing of refining we need as much info as possible.
Info from you would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Even with the creation of a torrent a time consuming task, ramains the fact that the files needs to be downloaded by those who are interesed and do to the fact of bandwith limitation it s seems a lot.Another fast ideea is loading them to an external server(bandwith is constant and you don t need to keep your computer open, because you have only leeches for your torrent).

Torrents are the way to go. I know how it works and I can help you set up your torrent if you want.

Mininova is a good idea.
